LIVE DEMOWhat was built
Dev Overflow is a full-featured Q&A platform inspired by Stack Overflow: developers ask questions, provide answers, vote on content and interact with the community, with Google Gemini providing context-aware assistance. State is synced to the URL, so filtered views and searches are shareable and bookmarkable.
- 01Features a rich-text environment with Markdown support and native syntax highlighting for multiple languages.
- 02Powered by Google Gemini to provide instant, automated answers directly within the community interface.
- 03Includes a robust reputation system with upvoting, downvoting, and interactive post management.
- 04Global search overlay filtering by question, answer, user or tag, with search terms synced to the URL.
- 05Profile hub with reputation score, metric tiles and Gold / Silver / Bronze badge tracks.
Inside the build
The real areas of the product, as built — routes, screens and workflows, verified from the project's own code and README.
Home feed — /
Aggregated questions with Newest / Recommended / Frequent / Unanswered filters and dual sidebars.
Global search
One overlay searching questions, answers, users and tags, synced to the URL.
Ask a question — /ask-question
TinyMCE workspace, tag tokeniser and validation for title and body.
Community — /community
Contributor directory with profile cards, search and metric sorting.
Collections — /collections
Bookmarked threads, with instant unsave without a full re-render.
Profile — /profile/[id]
Reputation, metric tiles, badge tracks and top posts / answers.
Architecture
Next.js App Router — route groups for the forum, community, collections and profiles
MongoDB with five schemas: Users, Questions, Answers, Tags, Interactions
Clerk — sessions, social logins and account management
Google Gemini — context-aware AI assistance
TinyMCE + Prism — rich-text authoring with code blocks and syntax highlighting
URL SearchParams — filter and search state synced to the browser path
Decisions & trade-offs
Five explicit schemas
Users, Questions, Answers, Tags and Interactions are separate schemas, so voting, reputation and tagging stay structured instead of embedded blobs.
AI as assistance, not replacement
Gemini suggests answers and content across features; community voting and reputation still decide what is trusted.
State in the URL
Filters and global-search terms live in query parameters, so an exact view can be shared as a link instead of described in words.
Outcomes
- Live demo verified loading on 2 Nov 2026.
- Search, community, profile and reputation workflows built across question creation, search, community and profile pages.
- Ask-question flow with TinyMCE authoring, tag tokeniser and validation bounds.
No invented users, revenue or performance numbers are claimed here. What is listed above is what was built and verified.
What I would do differently
Rate-limit and cache AI calls earlier — AI assistance is the most expensive part of every page that uses it.
